Medical Physics Journal depends on its reviewers to evaluate the originality, soundness, and clarity of every submission. This page describes what reviewing for MPJ involves.

The double-anonymized model

MPJ uses double-anonymized peer review. As a reviewer:

• You will not be told the identity of the authors.
• Authors will not be told your identity.
• Write comments to the author in a way that does not reveal your own identity — avoid referencing your own prior work in the first person, your institution, or other identifying detail.
• If you recognize the authors from the manuscript’s content despite anonymization, disclose this to the handling editor confidentially rather than declining silently or proceeding without mentioning it.

What you’re evaluating

• Originality and contribution to the field
• Soundness of the methods and validity of the results
• Clarity of writing and presentation
• Adequacy and accuracy of the references (formatted in the journal’s Vancouver style — numbered in order of first citation, not alphabetically)

Your recommendation

Reviews conclude with one of five recommendations to the handling editor: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, Reject, or Resubmit for Review. Comments intended only for the editor are kept separate from comments intended for the author and are never forwarded to them.

Confidentiality

A manuscript under review is confidential. Do not share it, discuss its contents outside the review, or use unpublished data or ideas from it for your own work. If generative AI tools are part of your normal workflow, do not upload manuscript content to one — see the AI Use Policy.

Conflicts of interest

Decline a review invitation if you have a recent collaboration, a personal relationship, or any other conflict of interest with the authors — even though you won’t be told who they are in advance, a conflict that becomes apparent once you see the manuscript should still be disclosed to the editor immediately.

Timeline

Typical review turnaround targets have not yet been finalized — invitations will state the specific deadline once the journal’s review workflow is fully configured.
